HOMEGROWN TALENT FLOURISHES FOR RBC

PETERSBURG, Va., (Nov. 23, 2015) – A string of three straight games scoring in double figures and an all-court game that is rapidly on the rise, has made former Petersburg High School standout Gevon Arrington one of the go-to players for the Richard Bland College men’s basketball team.

Arrington, who earned two varsity letters at Petersburg High School and was an All-District and All-Region selection as a senior, averaged 17 points and shot 59 percent from the floor in three games for the Statesmen last week. His performance over that stretch has earned him RBC Student-Athlete of the Week honors.

Against top-tier NJCAA Division I Chipola College, known as the "Kentucky of junior college basketball" according to head coach Chuck Moore, Arrington scored 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. He followed that effort with a career best 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting against Lenoir Community College. Last Saturday evening against Caldwell Community College, Arrington tallied 14 points on 50 percent shooting from the field. His shooting accuracy was further bolstered with an 11-of-12 (92 percent) effort from the free throw line in those three games.

While Arrington was doing his part offensively, he also distributed 13 assists (4.3 apg) and was tenacious off the backboards, grabbing 21 rebounds (7.0 rpg), including a career best 10 rebounds against Lenoir, earning his first intercollegiate double-double.

“Gevon brings a lot of effort and energy every time he steps onto the court,” said Moore. “Along with him being our best perimeter defender, he has produced a lot of meaningful offense for our team the last few games."
