SMITH'S BIG WEEKEND LOOMS LARGE FOR STATESMEN

PETERSBURG, Va., (Feb. 15, 2016) -- Sophomore forward Devin Smith produced his finest back-to-back games of the season when his team was facing a challenging two games against a nationally-ranked team and a top tier NJCAA Division I team.

Behind Smith's aggressive play, a mixture of slashing drives to the hoop and mid-range jump shots, the Statesmen swept its weekend games against No. 12 nationally-ranked Potomac (WV) State College and Brunswick Community College.

Smith scored a career-high 27 points against Potomac on 9 of 14 shooting from the field and a perfect 5 of 5 from the free throw line. His performance on Saturday enabled the Statesmen to pull out an impressive 82-88 victory.  In Sunday's game against Brunswick, Smith poured in 19 points, 14 of which came in the second half, to help the Statesmen fend off a late Dolphins rally and earn an 88-85 win. 

For his efforts, Smith is the RBC Student-Athlete of the Week.

Smith is a 2014 graduate of Randallstown High School in Randallstown, MD, where he earned three varsity letters. He attended Hagerstown Junior College in 2014-15 season. As a scholastic, Smith was a First-Team All-Baltimore County selection and as a senior averaged 15.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game . He was also a McDonalds All-American nominee. At Hagerstown he was an All-Region selection and averaged 13.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 2.1 assists per game.
