QUINTANILLA, ARCHER NAMED TOP MALE AND FEMALE ATHLETE

PETERSBURG, Va., (April 17, 2016) – Sophomore's Eduardo Quintanilla of the men's soccer team and Amanda Archer from the softball team were named the Male and Female Athletes of the Year at the Athletics Department Banquet held Sunday night at the Barn.

Each Richard Bland College team presented individual achievement awards and two dozen student-athletes were recognized for earning a spot on the Athletic Director's Academic Excellence List Wall.  RBC alumni, Dr. Eric Cunningham, who serves as the Associate Superintendent of Administration and Operations for Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools, was the Athletics Banquet Guest Speaker.

Quintanilla (San Salvador, El Salvador/Stonewall Jackson) was named a First-Team All-Region X Conference selection this past season after scoring five goals and three assists. Called "the heart and heart and soul" of this year's team by head coach Eduardo de Souza, Quintanilla led the Statesmen to the program's first-ever victory in the Region X Conference Tournament in the quarterfinals over Cape Fear and spearheaded the team in a narrow loss in the semifinals against eventual national champion Louisburg College.

Archer (Amelia, VA/Amelia County) is a two-year starter on the RBC softball team that won the Region X Conference regular season championship her freshman year. Last season she was an All-Region X Conference and an All-Region Team selection. 

As a freshman, she hit .396 with 44 hits, 32 RBI and four home runs. This season, Archer is hitting .303 with 22 hits, 10 RBI and two home runs. In addition to her athletic achievements, she is a Student Representative to the Board of Visitors of William & Mary, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, an RBC Honors Society, and ike Quintanilla, a member of the Athletic Director's Academic Excellence List.
