INAUGURAL RUN THROUGH THE GROVE 5K A BIG SUCCESS

PETERSBURG, Va., (April 30, 2016) -- Under perfect conditions, the inaugural Richard Bland College Run Through the Grove 5k went off without a hitch, and for the 70-plus runners who participated, it was a rare opportunity to run through Virginia's largest pecan grove and experience the beautiful Richard Bland College campus.

The registered runners, who were joined in the race by RBC student-athletes and coaches, were treated to pre-rand-post race music, water stops along the race route and food afterwards.

The Army 380th Band from Richmond Reserves kicked off the festivities with the playing of the national anthem and the race then race, which started at Statesman Hall, ran down Carson Drive, and RBC dorms, throughout the campus and the last leg around through the pecan grove before returning to the finish line.

"It was a great start to our first Run Through the Grove 5k," said Danish Sadaat, Coordinator of Special Events at Richard Bland. "The runners seemed to enjoy the course and all the festivities and we look forward to hosting the race every year on our campus."
