Greg Prouty Named Director of Athletics Communications & Marketing

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. – Richard Bland College Director of Athletics Chuck Moore has announced the appointment of Greg Prouty to the position of Director of Athletics Communications & Marketing.  Prouty arrives at Richard Bland from Indiana UniversityPurdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), where he served as Assistant Athletics Director for Media Services since November, 2015.  He has 24 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics, including 21 years at Longwood University prior to IPFW.

Prouty replaces Robin Deutsch, who has moved across campus to serve as Assistant Director of Communications & Marketing at Richard Bland College.

"I'm excited to add Greg to our staff," explained Moore.  "His experience in Division I athletics will be a huge asset to our staff and student-athletes, while helping us continue to elevate Richard Bland Athletics."

At IPFW, Prouty oversaw the daily operation of the media services office.  His responsibilities included administration of the department website and social media content, as well as supervision of a full-time assistant, graduate assistant, video coordinator along with part-time and student staff.  Prouty served as the primary media contact for men's basketball and baseball during 2015-16, promoting The Summit League Men's Basketball Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, a Senior CLASS Award Finalist, as well as eight All-League honorees, 10 League Player of the Week recipients and two League Athletes of the Month among the two sports.

"I'm grateful to Chuck Moore for selecting me to this position at Richard Bland College," said Prouty.  "The RBC family has been very welcoming, and I'm excited to be here to work with the Statesmen and such a great group of people – administrators, coaches and student-athletes – as this program continues to grow."

At Longwood (1991-95, 1997-2014), Prouty most recently served as the associate athletic director for media relations (2009-14).  He coordinated all publicity and promotion for Longwood's 14 Division I programs, and was a member of the school's senior management team for 10 years (2004-14) with supervisory oversight of men's soccer, women's soccer, and men's and women's cross country, along with athletics video services during his last five years.  Prouty had previously served in an assistant athletic director (2004-09) role.
 
During his tenure at Longwood, Prouty had direct sport coverage for all 14 teams at one time or another with the Lancers, most recently handling men's basketball, baseball, women's soccer, men's and women's golf, and men's and women's cross country.  He recently served a three-year term on the Big South Conference Hall of Fame Committee (2012-15).  Prouty served on the MVP Sports Media Training Advisory Board (2010-13), as well.
 
Prouty was the assistant sports information director at Longwood (1991-95) before serving two years as the sports information director at Lynchburg College (1995-97).  He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and a former member of the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) (1991-2014), and has served previous stints with CoSIDA's charity, ethics, publications contest, and publications awards publicity committees.

A native of Norwich, Ohio, Prouty earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations with an option in sports information from Eastern Kentucky University in December 1988.  He completed a one-year internship at ABC affiliate WTVQ-TV in Lexington, Ky., and then worked with the Indianapolis Colts during the 1989 NFL season as a public relations intern. 

Greg and his wife Paula, a 1985 Longwood graduate, have a daughter, Megan (18), who will attend Virginia Tech this fall.
