Richard Bland Places Four Student-Athletes On VaSID Academic All-State Team

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Richard Bland College placed four student-athletes on the 2015-16 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State team, as announced recently by the VaSID organization.  Amanda Archer/Amelia, Whitney Clements/Prince George, Abby Eichelberger/Newport News and Eduardo Quintanilla/San Salvador, El Salvador are among 234 student-athletes from 41 colleges and universities across the state recognized for having at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, and being a sophomore or higher.

"We are very proud of these student-athletes and what each of them has been able to achieve academically," said Director of Athletics Chuck Moore.  "They represent the finest among Richard Bland Athletics and we wish them well as they continue to pursue their education."

Archer, a member of the Statesmen softball team, earned an Associate in Science Degree (A.S.) with a 4.0 GPA.  The outfielder hit .293 with four home runs, three doubles, 23 runs and 17 RBIs in 35 games during 2016, earning NJCAA All-Region X First Team honors.

Clements, also a member of the Statesmen softball team, earned an A.S. with a 4.0 GPA, as well.  The infielder hit .430 with three triples, seven doubles, 30 runs and 32 RBIs in 41 games during 2016, earning NJCAA Region X Player of the Year and All-Region First Team honors.

Eichelberger, another member of the Statesmen softball team, earned an A.S. with a 3.94 GPA.  The outfielder hit .361 with 14 runs and 10 RBIs in 32 games during 2016, earning NJCAA All-Region X Second Team honors.

Quintanilla, a member of the Statesmen men's soccer team, has studied Business Administration with a 4.0 GPA.  The forward posted five goals and three assists for 13 points in 17 matches during 2015, earning NJCAA All-Region X First Team honors.

VaSID is comprised of sports information or athletics communications professionals from intercollegiate institutions throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Membership is open to any individual affiliated with one of the state's institutions at the NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, USCAA, NJCAA, community college and independent levels, provided that individual's area of responsibility lies within the realm of sports information.
