Upcoming Weekend an Important One for Athletics

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA -- This weekend contains three big contests for Richard Bland College Athletics.

On Friday, November 8, the men's soccer team plays in the semifinals of the NJCAA Southeast District Tournament against Eastern Florida State College at 6:30 pm.  Later that day, the men's basketball team will travel to Pennsylvania to play against Harcum College at 7 pm for the start of a series of road trips where the team will not see another home game until November 20.  On Saturday, November 9, basketball will play its second game at Harcum College against Harford Community College.

The men's soccer team makes it to its first NJCAA District Tournament since 2017, as the top two teams from Region X advance, and will face an opponent they have history against in this tournament.  Every time RBC has advanced to this round of the playoffs, they have matched up with Eastern Florida State College.  Each game played has been close, but each time Eastern Florida has advanced to the championship match.  This year's team is looking to rewrite history and advance to its first-ever NJCAA Southeast District Championship Game.  The team has not taken a day off since its loss to Louisburg College in the Region X Tournament Finals and has been training hard all week to prepare for this match against Eastern Florida.  Coach Westfield has this team ready and focused for this must-win matchup!

Coming off two wins and two losses after Wednesday's game against Northern Virginia Community College, this upcoming set of games for men's basketball will prove to be a true test for the team and would be a challenge for any young team.  This team has proven that it can hang with the best of them and has fought hard and come back from deficits against quality opponents in both of their wins.  Coach Lacey has this team well-prepared and running at full speed.  The team will be ready for its two games this weekend that will set the tone for the rest of the road trip and season.

These two teams are ready to face the challenges this weekend has in store for them and hope to come out of each contest victorious!
