STATESMEN TO MEET THE RAPTORS IN THE MARK BRYAN TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP

Petersburg, VA, November 23, 2013- The First Annual Mark Bryan Tournament Championship games are set. In the consolation game, the Panthers of Southside Virginia Community College will take on the Wildcats of Wytheville Community College. The championship game will feature the Richard Bland College Statesmen and the Montgomery College Raptors.

The Statesmen were led by Tavon Mealy with 23 points, Evan Bates 16 points 4-6 from three point range, Avery Ugba had 14 points and eight boards, and Micah Thomas added 13 points drilling two three point baskets of his own. The Wildcats were led by Malcolm Powell who had 21 points Henrico High School product Jay Allen with 12 points and D.J. Dowling (Armstrong High School) finished with 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. The Statesmen shot 55% from the field and held the Wildcats to shooting under 35% from the field to win 106-83.

The Statesmen are now 6-0 and remain undefeated in conference play. The Statesmen will make a run at claiming the first ever MarK Bryan Tournament Championship title game at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 24, 2013.
