BULLDOGS BITE STATESMEN, RICHARD BLAND FALLS IN FINAL SECONDS

PETERSBURG, VA, December 4, 2013- The Pitt Community College Bulldogs fought back throughout the game after being down early 20-2. The Statesmen dominated the first half and led at intermission 51-39. The Bulldogs battled down the stretch to nip the Statesmen 87-86.

Richard Bland took the lead after being down 67-66 on a three-point basket by Micah Thomas to put the Statesmen on top 69-67. The Bulldogs took the lead on back to back three point baskets by DeMarkus Forbes and JaQuan Blount to go up 75-71 and never looked back. The Statesmen continued to fight, but could not escape the Bulldogs bite.

The visitorss were led by JaQuan Blount with 24 points and nine rebounds, DeMarkus Forbes followed with 15 points, Demetrio Irby tossed in 13 points, and Josh Cox added 11 points. The Statesmen were led by Micah Thomas' 28 points including six treys while Tavon Mealy chipped in 22 points and 13 boards, Avery Ugba came off the bench to add his double-double performance with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

The Statesmen (7-1) go on the road to take on Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, NC this Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 3:00 pm. Potomac State of West Virginia will visit Statesman Hall on Sunday December 8, 2013 for a 2:00 pm tip-off.
