POWELL LEADS STATESMEN OVER GUILFORD TECH

JAMESTOWN, NC, February 1, 2014-Marquis Powell came off the bench to lead Richard Bland College to their 21st win of the season and their 13th consecutive victory over the Guilford Technical Community College Titans, 95-66.

Richard Bland College (21-1, 10-1 Region X) came into the game searching for depth and consistency and received it from guards Powell and Trayvonte Brown who scored 19 and 10 points respectively. Avery Ugba came off the bench to add eight points spotting minutes in the frontcourt. Guilford Tech (9-10, 4-6 Region X) started the game with Mark Chinn leading the way knocking down two three point baskets in the first three minutes of the game, to tie the game at 10-10. The Statesmen held the lead at halftime 45-36, cashing in on Melvin Gregory, who scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half. Marquis Powell made the most of his opportunity with quality minutes and savvy play, sparking the Statesmen to a second half surge resulting in another convincing win on the road. Micah Thomas added 16 points for Richard Bland. The Titans were led by Mark Chinn with 19 points.

After four straight road games, the Statesmen return to Statesman Hall on the campus of Richard Bland College to host the Cougars of Frederick Community College in a non-conference game on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 for a 6:00 pm tip-off.
