RICHARD BLAND SLIPS PAST LANCERS TO ADVANCE TO REGION X SEMIFINALS

HICKORY, NC, March 7, 2014- Richard Bland survived to advance against a Lenoir Community College squad who gave the Statesmen all they could handle, 97-94.

The Lancers were led by Antuawn Smith who tallied 35 points and connected on 8-10 from behind the three-point arc. As a team, Lenoir made 12 three pointers and shot 70% from long range and 61% from the field. The Statesmen were led by Tavon Mealy who had 22 points and six boards, Melvin Gregory added 17 points, Jeremy Saunders tossed in 15 points hitting on 5-7 fromshots from three-point range, Evan Bates contributed 14 points and Avery Ugba had a solid performance with 11 points and seven rebounds.

The #2 seed Statesmen will take on the #3 seed Wake Technical Community College Eagles tomorrow, Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 4:00 pm on the campus of Catawba Valley Community College. The Eagles upended the Statesmen in their last meeting 69-55, in Petersburg.
