STATESMEN MEN’S BASKETBALL RELEASES CHALLENGING 2014-2015 SCHEDULE

Petersburg, VA, September 11, 2014 - Richard Bland Men's Basketball has released their schedule for the 2014-15 season.   The program looks to build on a successful campaign from a year ago that saw the Statesmen reach a regular season national ranking of #1. Director of Athletics/Head Coach Chuck Moore has compiled an impressive schedule that includes six games against Division I foes and 12 contests at Statesmen Hall.

"We are looking to build on the success of last season and prepare ourselves for our challenging conference with a very difficult non-conference schedule.  There should be some very exciting games this year, especially at Statesmen Hall for our home fans!", said Moore.

The Statesmen will be tested early, embarking on a challenging slate of games in November.  The team opens the regular season at home on Nov. 1, as CCBC Dundalk visits Petersburg.  The Lions were nationally ranked the entire season and finished last season at 21-8, good enough to earn a share of the MDJUCO Conference regular season title.

RBC also faces Division III National Runners Up Caldwell Tech at the Region X Blast-Off Tournament in Pinehurst, NC on Nov. 15, and open regional play three days later on the road at Wake Tech, the reigning Region X Tournament champions and made it to the Final Four of the National Tournament.  The Statesmen and Eagles spilt a pair of regular season games last season, before a thrilling overtime battle in the regional tournament semi-finals.

The new year kicks off with a trio of tough Division I opponents, with the first two contests coming at the New Year's Tipoff event in Hanceville, AL.  The Statesmen face Snead State and Wallace State, a national tournament qualifier, on back-to-back days in early January.  Next, RBC hosts a nationally ranked Cape Fear squad in one of the marquee home games of the season on Jan. 7.

The season concludes with four of five games at Statesmen Hall, including a pair of tough regional matchups with Louisburg College on Feb. 11 and Wake Tech on Feb. 22.  The Statesmen close out the regular season at home against Bryant & Stratton on Feb. 25.
