STATESMEN BASKETBALL HOLD OPEN SCRIMMAGE
PETERSBURG, Va. – The Richard Bland Men's basketball team will hold an open scrimmage, Thursday, Oct. 23rd against Fork Union Military Academy in Statesman Hall. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. and admission is free to the public.
Head coach Chuck Moore will showcase his 2014-2015 basketball squad with key returners Tavon Mealy (Richmond, Va.) who averaged 16 points, following Melvin Gregory (Weems, Va.) who registered 13 points and Averyl Ugba's (Silver Springs, Md.) eleven points per game during last season.
Tavon Mealy (Richmond, Va.) was selected First Team All-Conference while Melvin Gregory (Weems, Va.) was selected Third Team All-Conference a season ago.
The team finished 15-3 in the league and 27-4 overall.
The Statesmen embrace newcomers Jhmair White (Paterson, N.J.), Isreal Stith (Lawrenceville, Va.) and Troy Gibson (Newport News, Va.) who look to contribute this season.
Richard Bland will open the 2014-2015 season at home against the Community College of Baltimore County in Dundalk (CCBC Dundalk) on Saturday, Nov. 1st. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
