MEALY’S 33 POINTS LIFT STATESMEN PAST POTOMAC STATE

KEYSER, WV – The Richard Bland men's basketball team earned their second consecutive win over the Catamounts of Potomac State College, 97-92 on Saturday afternoon.

The Statesmen improve their record to 2-0 with the win while Potomac State drop to 1-2 on the year.

Tavon Mealy (Richmond, VA) scored a game-high 31 points while grabbing seven rebounds to lead all scorers following Jhamir White (Paterson, NJ) who tallied 13 points and dished out four assists.

RBC would jump on the board first and would go on a 5-0 run until the Catamounts finally scored.

At the 9:20 mark, the Statesmen found themselves trailing 20-18 until Mealy scored an easy lay-up from Jhamir White's (Paterson, NJ) dish to tie the ball game at 20 even.

The Statesmen would hold a 10-point lead going into intermission, 45-35.

To start off the second half, Melvin Gregory (Weems, VA) scored two back-to-back baskets for the Statesmen to continue the Statesmen momentum and lead by 14.

RBC was in control for most of the second half but Potomac State kept fighting to stay alive. Although the Statesmen still led over the Catamounts, both teams exchanged baskets.

However, it would be the Statesmen who held off Potomac State as they were able to secure the 97-92 victory.

Richard Bland will return to action on Tuesday, November 11th when they travel to Catonsville, Md. to face CCBC Catonsville. The contest is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
