No. 11 RICHARD BLAND SET FOR REGION X BLAST-OFF TOURNAMENT

 

PETERSBURG, Va. – The No. 11 Richard Bland men's basketball team looks to begin its season at 4-0 on the road against Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute on Saturday, Nov. 15th in the Region X Blast-Off Tournament located in Pinehurst, N.C. The matchup is set to begin at 4 p.m.

The Statesmen (3-0) are coming off an overtime road win over CCBC Catonsville on Tuesday. Two players scored in double figures as the Statesmen defeated the Cardinals, 84-81.

Sophomore Tavon Mealy (Richmond, VA) scored a team-high 23 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field. Sophomore LeQuan Thomas (Virginia Beach, VA) netted a season-high 10 points to go along with seven assists, while freshman Reginald Moses (Henrico, VA) added nine points off the bench.

Overall, Mealy leads the Statesmen in scoring with 24.3 points per game, Avery Ugba (Silver Spring, MD) and Moses follow with 12.0 and 10.3 points per game, respectively. Mealy is the team's leading rebounder with 8.3 rebounds per game.

Located in Hudson, N.C., Caldwell CC&TI is 2-2 after falling to Bryant & Stratton, 71-53. The Cobras finished second in the nation just one year ago in Division III Region X.

The Statesmen have now won 13 straight regular season non-conference games dating back to the 2013-2014 season.
