RBC HOOPS HOLD OFF USC SALKEHATCHIE FOR SIXTH CONSECUTIVE WIN

PETERSBURG, Va. – The No. 11 Richard Bland Statesmen men's basketball team remains undefeated after holding of the Indians of USC Salkehatchie for their sixth consecutive victory, 77-74 on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Tavon Mealy (Richmond, VA) recorded his second double-double of the season with 19 points and 20 rebounds to lead all scorers and rebounders in the game.

Following Mealy's performance was freshman Reginald Moses (Henrico, VA) who netted a career-high 17 points off the bench as sophomore Avery Ugba (Silver Springs, MD) added 12 points and 11 rebounds while sophomore LeQuan Thomas (Virginia Beach, VA) chipped in 10 points and five steals on the evening.

With the win the Statesmen improve to 6-0 on the season while USC Salkehatchie drops to 7-1 on the season with the loss.

During the first half, RBC led by as many as 18 points early in the game. The Statesmen accounted for 13 points off of second chance points and outscored the Indians 24-8 off the bench to lead at intermission, 46-31.

As the second half got underway, RBC would pick up where they left off with Mealy scoring an easy lay-up assisted by Moses which ignited a 6-0 run before the Indians scored their first points of the second half from the free-throw line.

USC Salkehatchie would then make a run of their own to cut the deficit 54-42 at the 15:25 mark.

The Indians would eventually chip the lead down to trail by two points when they forced a turnover by the Statesmen which caused an easy bucket for the Indians late in the game.

As the game became close and the Statesmen led by one point (75-74), Khaaliq Fletcher (Hampton, VA) knocks down two critical free-throws to seal the win, 77-74.
The Statesmen return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25th when they travel to Henderson, N.C. to face Vance-Granville Community College. The contest is set to begin at 7 p.m.
