STATESMEN UPEND LENOIR FOR TENTH-CONSECUTIVE WIN

PETERSBURG, Va. – The Richard Bland men's basketball team improve its winning streak to ten straight wins and remain undefeated after thumping the Lancers of Lenoir Community College in dominating fashion, 97-53 on Sunday afternoon.

RBC (10-0) shot 50-percent from the floor in the contest while holding the Lancers to 28.4-percent shooting.

Four players scored double-digits for the Statesmen including Sophomore Avery Ugba (Silver Springs, Md.) who recorded a double-double with 22 points and season-high 16 rebounds (five offensive, 11 defensive). Sophomore Tavon Mealy (Richmond, Va.) added 22 points and seven rebounds, following sophomore Brian Adkins (Aberdeen, Md.) with 11 points and Jhamir White (Paterson, N.J.) with season-high 11 points to go along with three assists.

Sophomore LeQuan Thomas (Virginia Beach, Va.) posted a career-high with six steals in the win.

The Statesmen would score the first points of the game with a lay-up from Mealy off the jump ball tip. That lay-up would ignite a 15-0 run with just minutes into the game.

The Lancers would finally jump on board at the 14:57 mark with a layup by Davon Edwards. That field goal would spark Lenoir's 7-0 run.

RBC scored 15 points off of the Lancers nine turnovers and earned 30 points in the paint to LCC's eight. The Statesmen would lead going into intermission, 46-31.

The second half mimicked the first as the Statesmen maintained the momentum and a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.

RBC never let its foot off the gas paddle to command the 97-53 win.

Antuawn Smith led the Lancers (5-3) with 16 points following Edwards with nine points while Randy Johnson chipped in seven points.

The Statesmen return to action on Saturday, December 13th when they travel to face foe Guilford Tech in a Region X match-up. The contest is set to begin at 5 p.m
