No. 6 RBC HOOPS TAKES DOWN No. 1 LOUISBURG

LOUISBURG, N.C. – The sixth-ranked Richard Bland College men's basketball team defeated top-ranked and arch-rival Louisburg College, 87-81 on Wednesday night. Henrico native, freshman Reginald Moses scored 22 points to lead the Statesmen to its 15-win on the season.

 

Richard Bland (15-1, 7-1 Region X) led most of the second half but needed a 10-2 run at the end of the game to secure the win.

 

After the Hurricanes (15-1, 5-1 Region X) closed within 85-81 on Camden Scott made free-throw with 24 seconds left in the game, a series of turnover for both teams resulted in a steal for LeQuan Thomas (Green Run) and good layup that sealed the ball game.

 

The Statesmen had four other players score in double-figures; including sophomore Avery Ugba (Silver Springs, MD) who charted 14 points and 11 rebounds, sophomore Tavon Mealy (Armstrong) netted 10 points and collected seven rebounds.

 

Thomas added 12 points while Melvin Gregory (Lancaster) chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

 

RBC outscored the Hurricanes 42-32 in points in the paint, points off of turnovers (27-17) and held an advantage in bench points 40-19.

 

The Statesmen return to action on Saturday, January 17th when they travel to Hickory, N.C. to face Catawba Valley in a Region X matchup. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.

 

Following that game, the Statesmen will head to Spartanburg, S.C. to go head-to-head against Spartanburg Methodist. The contest is set to begin at 3 p.m.
