STATESMEN HOST GUILFORD TECH, SATURDAY

PETERSBURG, Va. – After dropping its third loss on the season to conference foe Patrick Henry on Wednesday, the Statesmen look recuperate and extend its home game winning-streak to eight when they host another Region X opponent in Guilford Tech for its basketball Hall of Fame and Alumni game on Saturday, Jan. 31. The contest is set to tip at 3 p.m. in Statesman Hall.

RBC welcomes Guilford Tech with an 18-3 overall record and 10-2 in the league. Tavon Mealy (Richmond, VA) is the team's leading scorer with 17.8 pointer per game. He has scored in double figures 20 of 21 games played, including 10 of the last 11. Reginald Moses (Henrico, VA) and Avery Ugba (Silver Springs, MD) follow with 14.8 and 11.9 ppg, respectively.

 

The Titans (9-12 overall, 3-9 Region X) also is coming off an 80-64 setback to No. 2 Louisburg on Monday, Jan. 26. GTCC has five players averaging double-digits in scoring, Kaleel Walton leads with 13.9 points per game, following Andre Saunders at 12.7 ppg, Mike Smith at 11.2 ppg and Carmoni Marks and Adam Coble with 10.7 and 10.0 ppg, respectively.

 

The last meeting between the two teams, the Statesmen dominated the Titans, 92-75 on Dec. 13.

 

The Statesmen will induct two former men's basketball players into the 2014-2015 Basketball Hall of Fame and welcome back all former Statesmen men's basketball players.
