RBC HOOPS CRUISE TO 94-59 VICTORY OVER VANCE-GRANVILLE

PETERSBURG, Va. – The Richard Bland College men's basketball team earned its 20th victory of the season against Region X foe Vance-Granville, 94-59 on Monday night in Statesman Hall.

 

The win improves the Statesmen to 20-3 overall and 12-2 in the league while the Vanguards drop to 4-13 overall and 2-11 in league play.

 

The Statesmen jumped on board first after Avery Ugba (Silver Springs, MD) scored a 15-footer from the baseline to give RBC an early lead. The Vanguards would answer back quickly with a jumper from Jordan Bunting.

 

Richard Bland led by as many as 19 points in to go into intermission, 43-25.

 

The momentum stayed with the Statesmen as the second half got underway, RBC was able to go on a 9-2 run sparked by Tavon Mealy (Armstrong) who charted four points in the run.

 

The Vanguards would never get closer than the 20 points of the Statesmen the remainder of the game as Richard Bland cruised to a 94-59 victory.

 

Sophomore Brian Adkins (Aberdeen, MD) led the way with 19 points, following sophomore Mealy (Armstrong) with 18 points and 10 rebounds while freshman Reginald Moses (Henrico) added 12 points to go along with career-high 10 assists.

 

The Statesmen outscored the Vanguards bench, 40-17 and earned 17 points off of second chances to Vance-Granville's seven.

 

Richard Bland returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 4th when they travel to Supply N.C. to face Brunswick Community College in a non-conference match-up. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
