FOURTH-RANKED STATESMEN TRAVEL TO KINSTON TO FACE LENOIR

PETERSBURG, Va. – Richard Bland ends its two-game road swing for the week with a trip to Kinston, N.C. to face Lenoir Community College on Saturday, Feb. 7. Tip is set for 2 p.m.

 

Sophomore Tavon Mealy (Armstrong) is the veteran leader and arguably the top player on the fourth-ranked team. Mealy is RBC's leading scorer with 18.5 points per game. Freshman Reginald Moses (Henrico) is the team's second leading scorer with 13.8 points per game and sophomore Avery Ugba (Silver Springs, MD) is third on the team with 12.2 ppg and leads the team in rebounds with 9.0 rebounds per contest.

 

Richard Bland (21-3, 12-2 Region X) is coming off an 87-65 victory against non-conference opponent Brunswick Community College on Wednesday night. Ugba's 15 points led the way for the Statesmen as they defeated the Dolphins in good fashion.

 

RBC has benefited from a balance scoring attack this season. There are four other players that average at least 6.1 points per game, including sophomore Brian Adkins (Aberdeen, MD) at 7.2 ppg, sophomore's Melvin Gregory (Lancaster) and Jhamir White (Paterson, NJ) both averaging 6.6 ppg and sophomore Pedro Berrios (Hopewell) with 6.1 ppg.

 

Unlike the Statesmen, the Lancers enters Saturday's match-up after coming off an 88-86 loss to Pitt Community College on Thursday night. Lenoir is 9-11 overall and 5-8 in the league. Jeremy Smith leads the Lancers in scoring with 21.9 points per game while Antuawn Smith follows with 16.9 ppg, respectively.

 

The Statesmen won the first meeting between the two teams on Dec. 7th, 97-53.
