RBC HOOPS DROPS TO LOUISBURG IN STATESMAN HALL

PETERSBURG, Va. – The Richard Bland men's basketball team saw a four-game win streak come to an end on Wednesday evening with a 80-74 loss to Louisburg College. The Statesmen drop to 22-3 overall with the setback and 13-3 in Region X play while the Hurricanes improve to 22-3 overall and 12-3 in the league.

Reginald Moses (Henrico) led the Statesmen with 19 points in the setback. Tavon Mealy (Armstrong) followed with 16 points and added eight rebounds while LeQuan Thomas (Green Run) chipped in 11 points.

Deshawn High led the Hurricanes with 14 points, following Keyon Cowan who chipped in 13 points to aid 11 rebounds while both Jamarcus Hairston and Raekwon Harney added 11 points, respectively.

Mealy put the Statesmen on the board first in the contest but the Hurricanes added a lay-up to tie the game early. RBC would go on an 8-0 run until Louisburg battled back to tie the game again with under 10 minutes left in the first half.

The Hurricanes would go into intermission leading over the Statesmen, 35-34.

Despite being down by one, the Statesmen started off the second half with great momentum as Avery Ugba (Silver Spings, MD) bangs the rim with a dunk to put RBC up by one.

Just when it appeared as if RBC would sustain control of the game and the momentum seemed to be in favor of the Statesmen, Louisburg refused to go away when Hairston drilled a 3-pointer to lead 64-59 at the 6:47 mark.

Both teams would exchange baskets for several minutes until Cowan's lay-up put the Hurricanes up 73-67 with under three minutes left in the game.

The Hurricanes hung on to its lead for the remainder of the contest before securing the 80-74 win.

The Statesmen return to action on Saturday, Feb. 14th when they travel to Pitt Community College for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
