BALANCED SCORING EARNS STATESMEN WIN OVER PITT

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Melvin Gregory (Lancaster) scored season-high 17 points, Reginald Moses (Henrico) added 16 points, Tavon Mealy (Armstrong) chipped in 15 points and Avery Ugba (Silver Springs, MD) posted a double-double, 12 points and game-high 16 rebounds to conclude its last road game of the season with a victory against Region X foe Pitt Community College on Saturday.

The Statesmen improve to 23-4 overall and 14-3 in the league while the Bulldogs fall to 18-9 overall and 13-5 in Region X.

The Bulldogs scored the game's first points off a jumper from Romone Adderley but the Statesmen answered back quickly with a jumper from Gregory. From there Pitt would take the momentum with an 8-0 run.

The Statesmen trailed 21-11 at the 6:15 mark until free-throws from Brian Adkins (Aberdeen, MD) and Ugba cut the deficit to six.

A 3-pointer from Moses sparked a 5-0 run for the Statesmen followed by another 3-pointer from Evan Bates (Cosby) gave the Statesmen its first lead of the game, 24-23 at the 2:18 mark.

The Statesmen went into the locker room with 32-28 lead at halftime.

As the second half got underway, both teams would exchange baskets throughout regulation but the Statesmen never trailed and saw its lead extend to 13 points after Moses drains a 3-pointer to close out the game, 80-65.

RBC outscored Pitt, 40-16 in the paint and 29-17 off of bench points.

Richard Bland returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 18 when they host Patrick Henry Community College for a 7 p.m. tip.
