STATESMEN, PATRIOTS TUSSLE IN STATESMAN HALL

PETERSBURG, Va. – The Richard Bland men's basketball team returns to the hardwood with another test against conference foe Patrick Henry Community College in Statesman Hall. The Statesmen are seeking a rematch with the Patriots after RBC suffered an 85-82 setback on Jan. 28.

 

Tip is slated for 7 p.m. as it will offer live statistics on www.rbcathletics.com and can be heard on live audio on Fox Sports Radio 1340 AM with Steve "Da Truth" Nugent and Jerrett Brown calling the action on http://radio.securenetsystems.net/v5/WHAP for the Statesmen "Heart of a Champion" game.

 

The contest will also offer free admission and pre-game reception beginning at 6 p.m. for all heart disease and stroke survivors as all fans are asked to wear red in support of the American Heart Association campaign to raise awareness about heart disease. The Statesmen who currently sit in first place in the Region X Division II standings with a 14-3 record in the conference are coming off an 80-65 win at Pitt Community College on Saturday. RBC had four players finish in double-figures including sophomore Melvin Gregory (Lancaster) who finished with a game-high 17 points in 17 minutes of play.

 

Freshman Reginald Moses (Henrico) tallied 16 points, sophomore Tavon Mealy (Armstrong) charted 15 points and sophomore Avery Ugba (Silver Springs, MD) posted 12 points and 16 rebounds in the win.

 

Overall this season, the trio of Mealy, Moses and Ugba have led the team in scoring. Mealy averages 18.0 points per game, following Moses and Ugba with 13.6 and 13.2 ppg, respectively.

 

Patrick Henry is 15-8 overall and just one of four teams with three losses in Region X (12-3). The Patriots are coming to Statesman Hall after a 100-68 loss to ninth-ranked Louisburg on Saturday.

 

PHCC is led by Jashad Jamison with 13.6 points per game, following Marcus Hayes and Josh Beck average 11.6 and 9.1 ppg.
