RBC HOOPS CELEBRATE SOPHOMORE NIGHT, HOST BRYANT & STRATTON ON WEDNESDAY

PETERSBURG, Va. – The Richard Bland men's basketball team caps the home portion of its 2014-15 schedule on Wednesday, Feb. 25th when it hosts No. 13 Bryant & Stratton. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Statesman Hall.

 

The Statesmen will honor their nine sophomores – Brian Adkins, Evan Bates, Pedro Berrios, Melvin Gregory, Joshua Marshall, Tavon Mealy, LeQuan Thomas, Jhamir White and Avery Ugba. '

 

RBC will also recognize four sophomore cheerleaders – Zaire Tunstall, Chelsey Mallory, Tiera Mason and Madison Kirkland.

 

The Statesmen are 25-4 overall and 16-3 in the Region X conference after a 110-63 win against Wake Tech on Sunday which improved RBC's home record to 11-1 on the year. The win also clinched RBC's second winning record in the 20 plus wins column since the program has been reinstated.

 

Richard Bland currently sits in a tie with Bryant & Stratton and Louisburg for the number one spot in the conference heading into Wednesday's game. The top three finishers in the regular-season standings will earn a first-round bye in the Region X Tournament, which will be hosted by RBC in Statesman Hall on Feb. 28th through Mar. 1st.

 

The Bobcats are 21-5 overall and 14-3 in Region X play. The Bobcats will play two games before the clash on Wednesday against Guilford Tech Community College and Patrick Henry Community College, with the match-up against PHCC at home.

 

Bryant & Stratton are led by freshman A'kanni White, who is averaging the team's highest in points at 11.4 points per game. Freshman Jaleel Ferguson averages 10.0 points per outing.

 

The Bobcats has a one-game advantage over the Statesmen, after defeating RBC in the first meeting, 66-64 on Jan. 10th.
