STATESMEN EARN No. 3 SEED IN NJCAA DII CHAMPIONSHIPS; REACH FIRST NJCAA TOURNAMENT

PETERSBURG, Va. – The Richard Bland College men's basketball team will make program history when it makes the trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Tournament for the first time ever, earning the No. 3 seed from the Region X and District VI on Sunday, March 15th.

The Statesmen will face Metropolitan Community College of Penn Valley, a team that holds a 9-22 overall record in the first game on Tuesday, March 17th. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. (CT) and 2 p.m. (ET) inside Mary Miller Gymnasium on the campus of Danville Area Community College in Danville, Illinois.

Each team is guaranteed to play at least two games during the tournament with the winners advancing to the winners bracket.

Richard Bland (28-4) was the lone star in power rankings coming into the tournament at #1, accounting for a total of 214 points because of its strength of schedule this season. Phoenix (27-5) followed the Statesmen with 211 points for the #2 spot while Schoolcraft (29-3) collected 201 points at the #3 spot.

RBC was one of four programs ranked nationally the entire season, with ranking #3 being its highest on the season back on Jan. 6th.

First round winners will advance to Wednesday's second round with the Final Four Games scheduled for Friday, March 20 and Championship Game on March 21.

Richard Bland will look for similar results to the Region X Championship this season when the Statesmen made a run to the championship game with wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals to claim its first championship title since 1990.
