MOORE NAMED SPALDING NJCAA DII MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH OF THE YEAR

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After guiding Richard Bland to its first National Junior College Athletic Association championship and second winning season since after a 20-year hiatus of athletics, head coach Chuck Moore has been recognized as the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Coach of the Year, the national office announced Friday.

Moore is the first coach in program history of Statesmen basketball to claim a National Coach of the Year award. He beat out two other finalists in Phoenix's Matt Gordon and John Wood's Brad Hoyt.

The Spalding NJCAA Coach of the Year Award has been presented every year since 1986.

Moore guided the Statesmen to a Region X title, its first since the 1989-90 season. Capping off a 32-4 campaign, Richard Bland defeated John Wood (Ill.) 65-53 in the national title game.

With the victory, Moore boosted his record with the Statesmen to 59-8. He is now 107-20 for his career with the addition of his record from two seasons at Patrick Henry (Va.) from 2007-09.
