GREGORY SIGNS WITH VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY

PETERSBURG, Va.Melvin Gregory made it official Thursday afternoon, signing a National Letter of Intent to join the Virginia State University men's basketball program starting next season.

 

Gregory, a 6-foot-8 forward from Weems, Va., joins the Trojans who finished 18-8 overall and 12-4 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference (CIAA) this past season.

 

The Lancaster High School product averaged 7.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, .3 assists, 1.0 blocks and .5 steals per game as a sophomore at Richard Bland College. He was the third leading rebounder on the squad this season and was selected Third-Team All-Region X during the 2013-14 campaign.

 

Prior to coming to Richard Bland, Gregory was a former standout at Lancaster, where he led his team to its first state championship title in 2012. He was named the 2012 State Player of the Year.

 

As a starter for 13 of 36 games this season for the Statesmen, Gregory played a key role in helping Richard Bland finish 32-4 overall, winning not only the Region X title but the 2015 NJCAA National Championship this season.

 

Gregory finished his career at RBC with a total of 653 points, 450 rebounds, 74 blocks and 27 steals.
