HOT-SHOOTING CALDWELL DOWNS STATESMEN AT REGION X BLASTOFF

SANDHILLS, N.C. (Nov. 21, 2015) — A hot-shooting Caldwell Community College team connected on ten 3-pointers and led from start to finish, to register a 104-93 victory over the Richard Bland College men's basketball team on Saturday evening at the Region X Blastoff played at Sandhills, N.C.

The Cobras, who advanced to the 2014 NJCAA Division III National Championship game, where they lost to Rock Valley College, were offensive-minded throughout the contest. Caldwell built a 53-46 halftime lead over the Statesmen, who were never quite able to stop a veteran Cobras team that returned four of five starters from last year's squad.

The loss drops Richard Bland to 4-4 on the season. The Statesmen, who were playing their seventh straight road game, will return to campus to face Vance-Granville Community College on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 7:00 p.m. The game is Military Appreciation Night at RBC, with all military and family admitted free of charge to the contest. Caldwell returns to action on Monday, Nov. 23 with a home game against Positive Day Prep.

Richard Bland placed four players in double figures, led by sophomore guard Devin Smith (Baltimore, MD/Randallstown) who had 18 points, four assists and two rebounds. Twelve of Smith's points came from the free throw line.

Petersburg High School standout Gevon Arrington (Petersburg, VA/Petersburg) had 14 rebounds — his third straight double figures scoring game — and added six rebounds. Fellow guard Deandre Clark (Orange County, VA/Wakefield Private School) had 14 points and sophomore forward Troy Gibson chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.
