BACK HOME: STATESMEN HOST VANCE GRANVILLE ON TUESDAY NIGHT
PETERSBURG, Va., (Nov. 23, 2015) – It has been almost one month since the Richard Bland College men's basketball team played a basketball game on campus, but that all changes on Tuesday night, when the Statesmen begin Region X Conference action hosting Vance-Granville Community College at 7 p.m.
The Statesmen (4-4) are coming off a 104-93 loss to Caldwell Community College at the Region X Blastoff on Saturday evening at Sandhills, N.C. ... The Statesmen placed four players in double figures, led by former Petersburg High School standout Gevon Arrington with 14 points, fellow freshman guard Deandre Clark with 14 points, freshman guard Myles Markland with 11 points and sophomore forward Troy Gibson with 10 points … Against Caldwell, RBC shot 49 percent from the floor, the second best mark of the season following a 56 percent effort against CCBC Dundalk in the second game of the season.
LAST SEASON VS. VANCE-GRANVILLE: Richard Bland defeated Vance-Granville twice last season, 115-58 on Nov. 25 and 94-59 on Feb. 2.
TOUGH AT HOME: Entering his third season at Richard Bland, head coach Chuck Moore has compiled an impressive 36-3 record at home … Overall, Moore has a 63-13 (.828) record at Richard Bland ... Moore was 48-16 in two seasons as head coach at Patrick Henry Community College
SOPHOMORE LEADERSHIP: Gibson, the lone returner from last year's championship team, has scored in double figures in seven of eight games this season, including a career-best 25 points against Harcum College ... If not for a 9-point game against Essex, Gibson would be a perfect 8 for 8 scoring in double digits.
REBOUNDING AS A TEAM: Against Lenoir Community College on Nov. 18, the Statesmen hauled in 61 rebounds, tying a mark of 61 set against Cape Fear Community College last January 7 … Only one other time in Moore's time as coach has the team had 60 or more rebounds in a game – 60 versus Tidewater Community College on Dec. 13, 2013.
LEADER OF THE BLOCK:, Wooten leads the Statesmen in blocks with 22 (2.7 bpg), which is 5th best in NJCAA Division II.
