TWO HOME GAMES HIGHLIGHT BASKETBALL'S WEEKEND SCHEDULE

PETERSBURG, Va., (Feb. 12, 2016) – For the final time this season, the Richard Bland College men's basketball team will dip out of Region X Conference play, hosting a pair of non-conference opponents in No. 12 nationally-ranked Division II Potomac State (WV) on Saturday at 4 p.m. and NJCAA Division I Brunswick Community College on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Saturday's contest is Tri-Cities Youth Game. All youth are admitted free to the game when accompanied by an adult. On Sunday, the Statesmen hold the second annual American Heart Association game that promotes and publicizes healthy living.  
 

Richard Bland (12-13, 8-7) is coming off a 78-67 loss to then-No. 12 Louisburg College on Wednesday night. Potomac State (19-2), which competes in Region 20, is coming off a 94-56 victory over Southern Virginia University JV on Monday ... Division I, Region X Brunswick (13-14, 2-6) is coming off a 99-86 victory over Port City Sports Academy on Wednesday.

LAST YEAR VS. POTOMAC: Played on Nov. 8, 2014 in Keyser, WV, the Statesmen fended off a late Potomac rally to earn a 97-92 victory … The previous season, RBC registered a 92-78 home victory on Jan. 19, 2014.

LAST YEAR VS. BRUNSWICK:  Played on Feb. 4, 2015 in Supply, N.C., the Statesmen placed five players in double figures in an 88-65 victory ... The previous season, Richard Bland edged Brunswick, 89-81, to capture the Cape Fear Classic in Wilmington, N.C.

RBC POINT PRODUCTION: Sophomore Troy Gibson leads the team in scoring at 15.0 ppg and has maintained his scoring average while leading the team in minutes played (28.3 mpg) … Fellow sophomore forward Devin Smith averages 12.4 ppg. Followed by Griggs follows at 12.0 ppg and sophomore guard Gerard Dean-McBride at 11.2 ppg.

 
CAPTAIN GIBSON: Gibson had a streak of 11 straight games scoring in double figures snapped against Louisburg, but the forward has been incredibly consistent this season, scoring in double figures in 21 games this season.
 

AT HOME: The Statesmen are 7-3 at home this season and 33-5 under head coach Chuck Moore.

ABOUT NO. 12 POTOMAC STATE: The Catamounts are in the midst of a 19-2 season, and are rising a seven game winning streak in which the team has kept its opponents scoring in the low 70s … A balanced scoring team, Potomac State has four players scoring in double figures, led by freshman forward Tyrell Edmiston (16.5 ppg), followed by sophomore guard Travis Brown (12.7 ppg) … The Catamounts average 84.7 ppg and allow 46.9 ppg … Edmiston leads the team in rebounding (8.7 rpg).

ABOUT BRUNSWICK: The Division I Dolphins recently snapped a six-game losing with a 99-86 victory over Port City Sports Academy … Brunswick went 6-2 in December, winning six straight games, otherwise it has been an up-and-down season … Freshman guard Lysander Bracey leads the team in scoring (18.2 ppg), followed by sophomore guard Alex Brown (16.0 ppg) and freshman forward Eric Freeman (11.8 ppg) … Freeman is the team leader in rebounding (6.2 rpg) … The Dolphins average 90.3 ppg scoring and allow 66.2 ppg… They shoot 51.3 percent from the field … Off the boards, BCC averages 35.6 rpg.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Statesmen hit the road for their next two games, visiting No. 8 Patrick Henry on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. and Wake Tech Community College on Saturday at 3 p.m. … Potomac visits Thomas Nelson Community College on Sunday at 2 pm. ... Brunswick hosts Spartanburg Methodist on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 3 pm.
