BASKETBALL LANDS LAKE TAYLOR H.S. ALL-STATER TRAVIUS SMITH

PETERSBURG, Va., (May 13, 2016) – Travius Smith, a 6-foot-4 guard from Norfolk, VA., who earned First-Team All-State honors at Lake Taylor High School this past season, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play his intercollegiate basketball at Richard Bland College next season.

Smith had a phenomenal career at Lake Taylor, tallying 980 points while earning four varsity letters. He was inserted into the starting lineup as a freshman, and four years later will graduate as Lake Taylor's all-time leading scorer.

This past season, Smith earned First-Team All-State honors while averaging 15 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals a game. He led Conference-17 in scoring this past season and was named the conference Player of the Year. In addition to those accolades, Smith was a First-Team All-Tidewater selection and All-Region selection. As a junior, Smith earned Second-Team All Conference-17 honors.

"We're excited to have Travius join the Richard Bland College basketball family," said head coach Chuck Moore. "His passion and work ethic on and off the court will be a welcome addition to our program. His athleticism is off the charts, as he can guard multiple positions. We we look forward to him bringing our team scoring punch from the perimeter."

Smith will be joining a Statesmen team that captured the 2015 NJCAA Division II National Championship.
