FORT DORCHESTER H.S. ALL-STATER DEON JOYNER NEWEST STATESMAN

PETERSBURG, Va., (May 18, 2016) – Deon Joyner, a 6-foot-9 center from Charleston, SC., who earned First-Team All-State and All-Region honors at Fort Dorchester School this past season, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play his intercollegiate basketball at Richard Bland College next season.

Joyner, who played on Fort Dorchester teams that won back-to-back 8-AAAA Boys' Basketball Region championships his junior and senior season, capably patrolled the center position for the Patriots, earning two varsity letters. As a senior, Joyner averaged 13 points, 6 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game. Those numbers were a marked improvement from his junior season when he averaged 8 points and 4 rebounds a game

In addition to earning All-Region and All-State honors, Joyner was a All-Star selection who played in this year's SlamFest for the Dorchester District II team.

"We are very excited to have Deon in the program," said Richard Bland Colege head coach Chuck Moore. "He's a skilled post player who comes from a winning program at Fort Dorchester. As a student-athlete, Deon embraces our motto, 'nothing less than excellence.'"

Smith will be joining a Statesmen team that captured the 2015 NJCAA Division II National Championship.

"I am very excited about attending Richard Bland College," Joyner said. "I can't wait to get on campus to further both my academic and athletics career. I am looking forward to helping the team improve any way I can."

Richard Bland College provides a distinctive learning experience for students preparing for transfer to selective colleges and universities after completing university-equivalent coursework and associate degrees in arts and science.
