Richard Bland Names Miodrag Dronjak Athlete of the Week

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. – Richard Bland College freshman men's basketball student-athlete Miodrag (Mio) Dronjak/Kladovo, Serbia has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period October 5-11.  According to Statesmen Director of Athletics and men's basketball head coach Chuck Moore, the 6-2 guard has worked extremely hard during preseason conditioning and the first two weeks of practice.  The entire athletics department administration and coaching staff was in unanimous agreement in recognizing Mio for his efforts both on and off the court because he is the perfect example of a true Statesmen Student-Athlete.  Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending injury during the Assist at U-Turn Jamboree on October 8 in Richmond and will miss the upcoming 2016-17 campaign.  Dronjak is interested in pursuing a major in Computer Science or Biotech Engineering while off to an outstanding beginning to his academic pursuits at Richard Bland.

Please click on this link for Mio's full biography, and see below for a brief Q&A on his Athlete of the Week selection.  Athletes of the Week are chosen by members of the Richard Bland Athletics Department.

Q: How does it feel to be named Richard Bland Athlete of the Week?
MD: It is an honor to be named Athlete of the Week.  Being around so many competitive student-athletes in the program makes me work hard in the classroom and on the court.  I want to thank my coaching staff and everyone in the department for selecting me this week.

Q: How did you get started in your sport and how long have you played?
MD: I was introduced to the sport at a very young age, but my first serious basketball started around seventh grade.  I left home when I was 14 to play for one of the better teams in my country, and it's been six years now.

Q: What do you like most about your team?
MD: Our team is a big family.  We have our ups and downs, but at the end of the day, we all push each other in the right direction.  If I were to choose one thing I like the most, it would be the competitive side of each player.

Q: Who is your funniest teammate/why?
MD: Brandon (Henry).  He always has fresh jokes and he brings that laugh and energy into the locker room.

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals/superstitions?
MD: I do not have any rituals, but I have a routine.  I like to eat four hours before games and start stretching around two hours before the game starts.

Q: What is your favorite place on campus/why?
MD: My favorite place is the Statesman Hall gym.  I spend most of my time there and it's the place where I can relax and grow as a player.

Q: What is your favorite class/professor/why?
MD: I do not have a favorite professor, but I do have a favorite class.  Mathematics is the subject that I enjoy because it makes you think and requires your focus.  You are faced with problems and it's interesting to solve them.  I try to transfer that into my everyday life and basketball.
