No. 8 Richard Bland Wins At Bryant & Stratton 87-54

NORFOLK, Va. -- Sophomore Jaquan Wooten/Kinston, North Carolina posted game-highs of 13 points, nine rebounds and five blocks to lead No. 8 Richard Bland College to an 87-54 Region X Conference men's basketball road victory at Bryant & Stratton College on Sunday afternoon in Norfolk.  Freshman Ricky Hicks/Bronx, New York added 11 points and sophomore Deandre Clark/Orange had nine points for the visiting and nationally-ranked Statesmen (16-3, 9-1), who led 44-23 at halftime en route to their 12th win in their last 13 games.  Gerrard Simpkins scored 13 points for the host Bobcats (12-9, 8-5).

Richard Bland took a commanding 44-23 lead at halftime, led by sophomore Gevon Arrington/Petersburg with seven first-half points, followed by six points each from Clark and freshman Tim Bing Jr./District Heights, Maryland, along with five first-half points by freshman Brandon Henry/Chester.

The Statesmen continued with their momentum in the second half, outscoring Bryant & Stratton, 43-31.  Wooten led the charge over the final 20 minutes with 11 second-half points, while Hicks followed with nine points and sophomore Harrison Mitchell/Hampton added seven second-half points.

Wooten led Richard Bland with his game-high totals of 13 points, nine rebounds and five blocks.  Hicks added 11 points for the Statesmen, while Clark had nine points, including three three-point field goals, along with five assists.  Bing finished with eight points and five assists, while Mitchell and freshman Deon Joyner/North Charleston, South Carolina each contributed eight points, as well.  Arrington and freshman Travius Smith/Norfolk each had seven points, and Henry finished with five points.

Simpkins led Bryant & Stratton with his game-high 13 points.

Richard Bland and Bryant & Stratton were playing for the sixth time in the sport of men's basketball, and the series is now tied at 3-3.

Richard Bland's Mitchell, Travius Smith and freshman Robert Smith/Hampton were playing "close to home" against the Bobcats, as the trio combined for 19 points in their "homecoming of sorts" contest.

Richard Bland will play two more Region X road games to complete the month of January, beginning at rival Patrick Henry Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. in Martinsville, and at Guilford Technical (N.C.) Community College next Saturday, Jan. 28 at 3 p.m. in Jamestown, North Carolina.
