No. 6 Richard Bland Wins At Guilford Technical (N.C.) 101-82

JAMESTOWN, N.C. -- Sophomore Deandre Clark/Orange scored 20 points to lead No. 6 Richard Bland College to a 101-82 Region X Conference men's basketball road victory at Guilford Technical (N.C.) Community College on Saturday afternoon in Jamestown, North Carolina.  Classmate Gevon Arrington/Petersburg added 16 points, while freshman Stanley Taylor/Petersburg contributed 12 points for the visiting and nationally-ranked Statesmen (18-3, 11-1), who led 54-34 at halftime en route to their fifth-straight win and 14^th victory in the last 15 games.  Drew Cone scored a game-high 23 points for the host Titans (6-15, 3-9). 

Richard Bland was ahead 54-34 at the intermission, led by 13 first-half points from Clark, including three three-point field goals.  Freshman Brandon Henry/Chester scored seven points during the opening 20 minutes, followed by Arrington (5) and sophomore Jaquan Wooten/Kinston, North Carolina (5).

The Statesmen and Guilford Tech played evenly during the second half, as the Titans actually had a narrow 48-47 edge over the final 20 minutes, to provide for the final 19-point margin.  Arrington led the way after the break with 11 points, followed by Taylor (10) and Clark (7). 

Clark led Richard Bland with his 20 points, including four three-pointers.  Arrington added 16 points for the Statesmen, including two three-pointers, while Taylor had 12 points.  Henry finished with nine points, and Wooten, along with freshmen Deon Joyner/North Charleston, South Carolina and Travius Smith/Norfolk, each contributed eight points.  Wooten added 11 rebounds, as well.

Cone led Guilford Tech with his game-high 23 points, while BJ McKeever added 21 points for the Titans.

Richard Bland and Guilford Tech were playing for the eighth time in the sport of men's basketball, and the Statesmen now lead the series, 8-0.

Richard Bland will return home to host Lenoir (N.C.) Community College next Wednesday, February 1 at 7 p.m., the first of seven home games at Statesman Hall during the month of February.  The Lenoir contest has been designated as the program's Coaches vs. Cancer Suits & Sneakers / Pink Out contest to raise awareness about the American Cancer Society's lifesaving mission, and to promote the American Cancer Society as a place for help and support.  The Statesmen coaching staff will wear sneakers with their game attire as a visible reminder about the importance of nutrition and physical activity in reducing cancer risk.
