No. 5 Richard Bland Welcomes CCBC Dundalk (Md.) On Sunday

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College will host Community College of Baltimore County Dundalk (Md.) in a non-conference men's basketball game on Sunday afternoon, February 12 at 3 p.m. in Statesman Hall.  The nationally-ranked Statesmen, No. 5 in this week's NJCAA Division II Top 20 Poll, feature an overall record of 20-4 with seven wins in their last eight games, and 16 wins in their last 18 games played.  The visiting Lions are 13-10 overall with three wins in their last four games.  Admission is free to all Richard Bland home games, while the contest can be heard locally on WHAP Radio, Fox Sports 1340 AM.

Scouting the Statesmen
No. 5 Richard Bland is 20-4 overall after a 78-71 home setback to No. 6 Louisburg (N.C.) College on Feb. 8.  The Statesmen, who are an outstanding 94-29 (.764) over the past four seasons, are coached by head coach Chuck Moore, who is in his fourth season, and assisted by fourth-year assistant coach Brian Henderson, second-year assistant coach Preston Beverly and first-year graduate assistant coach Mike Wynn.

Through 24 games, Richard Bland has been led in scoring by 6-4 sophomore guard Deandre Clark/Orange, who is averaging 12.5 points (62 3FGs), 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists.  He is followed by local 6-3 sophomore guard Gevon Arrington/Petersburg, who is averaging 12.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists, while 6-9 sophomore center Jaquan Wooten/Kinston, North Carolina is averaging 11.2 points (65 FG%), 9.0 rebounds and 2.9 blocks with eight double-doubles.  Richard Bland is averaging 82.5 points per game, while allowing just 67.0 points to opponents for a scoring margin of +15.5.

Scouting the Lions
CCBC Dundalk is 13-10 overall after a 75-56 home loss to Manor (Pa.) College on Feb. 7, and is coached by head coach Jaron Taylor.  The Lions have been led in scoring by sophomores Mike White (16.4), Donte Jafah-Winfield (13.3) and Robert Goodwin (12.6).  CCBC Dundalk averages 77.7 points, while yielding 76.4 points for a scoring margin of +1.3.

Series History
Richard Bland and CCBC Dundalk are playing for only the third time in the sport of men's basketball, and the Statesmen currently lead young series at 2-0.  Richard Bland won last season on November 1, 2015 in Maryland by a score of 99-94, led by double-figure scoring efforts from Deandre Clark (25), sophomore Myles Markland/Petersburg (14), Gevon Arrington (11) and sophomore Harrison Mitchell/Hampton (10), who added 13 rebounds for a double-double.  The Statesmen won on Nov. 1, 2014 at home by a score of 76-68.

Among the National Leaders
Richard Bland is ranked ninth in NJCAA Division II rebounding (45.3), 17th in blocks (4.9), 22nd in steals (10.5), 30th in assists (17.8) and 42nd in scoring (82.5).  Jaquan Wooten is ranked seventh nationally in both field goal percentage (65.2%, 105-161) and blocks (2.9), and 26th in rebounding (9.0).  Deandre Clark is tied for 29th nationally in three-point field goals (62).  Freshman Ricky Hicks/Bronx, New York is ranked 43rd nationally in assists (4.8).

2015 NJCAA Division II National Champions
Richard Bland won the 2015 NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship, defeating John Wood (Ill.) Community College 64-53 on March 21, 2015 at the Mary Miller Gymnasium on the campus of Danville Community College in Danville, Illinois.  The Statesmen finished their most memorable storybook 2014-15 campaign with a school-record of 32-4, winning the national title in only their second year back in action following a 20-year hiatus from competitive sports at Richard Bland College.

Richard Bland remains at home for four more games to complete the regular season, beginning with Region 10 and in-state rival Patrick Henry next Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in Statesman Hall, followed by region contests against Bryant & Stratton (Saturday, Feb. 18, 3 p.m.), Vance-Granville (N.C.) (Wednesday, Feb. 22, 7 p.m.) and Wake Tech (N.C.) (Saturday, Feb. 25, 7 p.m.).  The first 75 Richard Bland students in attendance for the Patrick Henry contest will receive free pizza.
