No. 5 Richard Bland Runs Past CCBC Dundalk (Md.) 104-82

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Sophomore Deandre Clark/Orange scored a season-high 23 points to lead No. 5 Richard Bland College to a 104-82 non-conference men's basketball victory past CCBC Dundalk (Md.) on Sunday afternoon at Statesman Hall.  Sophomore Gevon Arrington/Petersburg added a season-high 22 points, and classmate Jaquan Wooten/Kinston, North Carolina had a season-high 19 points for the nationally-ranked Statesmen (21-4), who led 60-32 at halftime.  Robert Goodwin scored a game-high 30 points off the bench for the visiting Lions (13-11).

Richard Bland scored the first 10 points of the contest and never looked back, getting six quick points from Wooten to lead 10-0 at 16:29.  CCBC Dundalk managed to close the margin to 15-8 at 14:10 after a three-point field goal by Mike White.  The Statesmen answered with an 8-0 run to lead 23-8 at 11:29, getting back-to-back three-pointers from Arrington and a layup from sophomore Jalen Jackson/Plainfield, New Jersey.  A conventional three-point play by Clark made it 28-9 at 10:45, and a layup by freshman Robert Smith/Hampton made it 39-21 at 5:53.  Arrington added a jumper at 3:19 for a 20-point margin at 44-24, and the hosts extended the margin to 60-32 at the intermission.  Arrington (15), Clark (13) and Wooten (13) combined for 41 first-half points. 

Richard Bland led 69-40 at 17:27 of the second half after another old-fashioned three-point play, this time by Arrington, and it was 72-42 at 15:47 following a free throw from sophomore Myles Markland/Petersburg.  The Statesmen took their largest lead (32 points) at 97-65 with 6:17 remaining after a three-point play inside by Jackson, and a Markland jumper at 4:11 made it 104-72, a 32-point margin again, before the Lions scored the final 10 points of the contest to provide for the final 22-point margin of victory by RBC.  It marked the fourth time this season that the Statesmen have surpassed 100 points in a game.

Clark led Richard Bland with his season-high 23 points, including 4-10 three-pointers.  Arrington added a season-high 22 points for the Statesmen, along with a game-high 10 rebounds for his first double-double, posting four assists and two steals, as well.  Wooten finished with a season-high 19 points, adding a game-high 10 rebounds for his ninth double-double.  Jackson had a season-high 11 points, adding five rebounds, while Smith contributed a season-high 10 points.  Freshman Brandon Henry/Chester scored eight points, and classmate Tim Bing Jr./District Heights, Maryland dished a season-high and game-high 11 assists.

Richard Bland shot 53% (39-73) from the field, including 30% (7-23) on three-pointers, and 70% (19-27) at the free throw line.  The Statesmen had a 58-16 advantage in points in the paint, 25-9 in points off turnovers, 24-5 in second chance points and 27-4 in fast break points.

Goodwin led CCBC Dundalk with his game-high 30 points, including 12-15 free throws.  White added 15 points for the Lions, including 6-7 free throws.  Dundalk shot 40% (21-52) from the field, including 40% (10-25) on three-pointers, and 71% (30-42) at the line.

Richard Bland and CCBC Dundalk were playing for just the third time in the sport of men's basketball, and the Statesmen now lead the young series at 3-0. 

Richard Bland remains at home for four more games to complete the regular season, beginning with Region 10 and in-state rival Patrick Henry on Wednesday night, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in Statesman Hall, followed by region contests against Bryant & Stratton (Saturday, Feb. 18, 3 p.m.), Vance-Granville (N.C.) (Wednesday, Feb. 22, 7 p.m.) and Wake Tech (N.C.) (Saturday, Feb. 25, 7 p.m.).  The first 75 Richard Bland students in attendance for the Patrick Henry contest will receive free pizza.
