Richard Bland Names Tim Bing Jr. Athlete of the Week

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College freshman men's basketball standout guard Tim Bing Jr./District Heights, Maryland has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period February 8-14.  He helped the Statesmen (21-4, 13-2) to a 1-1 week, posting seven points, three rebounds and 13 assists in 32 minutes off the bench in the two games.  Bing dished out a season-high 11 assists in just 15 minutes during a 104-82 home win past CCBC Dundalk (Md.) on Feb. 12, tying for the third-highest single-game total in the modern history of the program (since 2013-14).

Through 25 games, Bing is averaging 5.4 points (fifth on the team), 2.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists (second) for Richard Bland, ranked No. 8 in this week's NJCAA Division II Top 20 Poll.  He is playing 14.7 minutes per game, while shooting 45% (44-98) from the field, including 41% (14-34) on three-point field goals, and 69% (33-487) at the free throw line, adding 26 steals (fifth).

Q: How does it feel to be named Richard Bland Athlete of the Week?
TB: It feels good to be noticed on and off the court.

Q: How did you get started in basketball and how long have you played?
TB: I got started at a young age when my mom and grandma were looking for activities for me to try.  They found out that basketball was for me in fourth grade.

Q: What do you like most about your team?
TB: We are always together on the court and off the court.  We are really like a family.

Q: Who is your funniest teammate/why?
TB: Harrison Mitchell.  He just always has jokes.

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals/superstitions?
TB: No, I actually try to keep the game off my mind until an hour before tip-off.

Q: What is your favorite place on campus/why?
TB: Patriot Hall.  It's where I get my work done, and where I spend the majority of my time.

Q: What is your favorite class/professor/why?
TB: My favorite class has been English 101-02 with Danielle Resnick, Adjunct Instructor of English.  She is very supportive to all of her students and she is always willing to help.
