Richard Bland Hosting First Two Rounds Of Region 10 Tournament

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College has earned the No. 2 seed for the 2017 Region 10 Men's Basketball Tournament, and will host the first two rounds of the event this weekend, March 4-5, at Statesman Hall on the Richard Bland campus.

The Statesmen of fourth-year head coach Chuck Moore finished their regular season with an overall record of 25-4, including 17-2 in Region 10, to claim the No. 2 seed and will play either No. 7 Guilford Technical (N.C.) Community College (10-19, 7-13) or No. 10 Vance-Granville (N.C.) Community College (5-24, 2-18) in a tournament quarterfinal contest on Sunday, March 5 at 4 p.m.  GTCC and VGCC play in a first-round game on Saturday, March 4 at 4 p.m.

Louisburg (N.C.) College (25-3, 19-1) is the top seed for the region tournament and will play either No. 8 Pitt (N.C.) Community College (11-14, 7-13) or No. 9 Lenoir (N.C.) Community College (9-21, 6-14) in a tournament quarterfinal contest on Sunday, March 5 at 12 p.m.  PCC and LCC play in the other first-round game on Saturday, March 4 at 2 p.m.

The additional two Region 10 quarterfinal contests on Sunday, March 5, include No. 4 Catawba Valley (N.C.) Community College (19-10, 13-7) against No. 5 Bryant & Stratton College (16-13, 12-8) at 10 a.m., along with No. 3 Patrick Henry Community College (16-10, 14-6) against No. 6 Wake Technical (N.C.) Community College (14-16, 10-10) at 2 p.m.

The Region 10 Tournament semifinals and championship will take place next Friday and Saturday, March 10-11, at Sandhills (N.C.) Community College in Pinehurst, North Carolina.  The LC-TBD winner playing the winner of CVCC-BSC on Friday, March 10 at 4 p.m., followed by the winners of the RBC-TBD and PHCC-WTCC on Friday, March 10 at 6 p.m.  The Region 10 Championship game is set for Saturday, March 11 at 3:30 p.m. 

Richard Bland swept its season series against every other school in Region 10, except Louisburg, who defeated the Statesmen in a pair of closely-played games.  The Hurricanes won 71-66 on January 14 in North Carolina and followed with a 78-71 victory on February 8 at Statesman Hall.  Richard Bland has been led all season by the sophomore trio of Jaquan Wooten/Kinston, North Carolina (12.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.8 blocks), Deandre Clark/Orange (12.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists) and Gevon Arrington/Petersburg (12.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists).

Ticket prices for the first two rounds of the Region 10 Tournament at Richard Bland are $10 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens age 65 and up and youth age 12 and under, as well as for students with IDs from participating schools.  Admission is free for all Richard Bland students with IDs.
