Richard Bland Names Gevon Arrington Athlete of the Week

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College local sophomore men's basketball standout guard Gevon Arrington/Petersburg has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period March 1-7.  He led the Statesmen to a 108-52 home win past Vance-Granville (N.C.) Community College in a Region 10 Tournament quarterfinal contest on March 5 at Statesman Hall.

This is the third time that Arrington has been selected for the weekly honor, as he previously garnered the award for the periods December 7-13, 2016 and February 1-7.  He is the first student-athlete to be named Athlete of the Week three times this year.

Arrington led Richard Bland with a career-high double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds, adding four assists during the tournament quarterfinal triumph.  Through 30 games, he is first in scoring for the Statesmen (26-4), ranked No. 8 in this week's NJCAA Division II Top 20 Poll, with his 12.7 points, adding 5.7 rebounds (second), 2.7 assists (third) and 1.1 steals (fifth), along with 35 three-point field goals (second).  Arrington is playing a team-best 24.7 minutes, while shooting 50% (139-277) from the field (second), including 36% (35-98) on three-pointers (third), and a team-best 75% (68-91) at the free throw line.
