Jaquan Wooten Named To NJCAA Division II All-America 2nd Team | Will Play In NJCAA Coaches All-Star Game On April 29 In Las Vegas

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College sophomore Jaquan Wooten/Kinston, North Carolina has been named to 2017 NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball All-America Second Team, as announced today by the NJCAA, and as selected by the Division II Men's Basketball Committee. 

"Quan has been an unbelievable asset to the program, as a leader and as one of the hardest workers," said Richard Bland head coach Chuck Moore.  "I have enjoyed coaching him the past two years and will miss him.  I look forward to watching him have success at the next level!"

The All-Region 10 First Team honoree started all 36 games this season, averaging 12.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks, while adding 32 steals and 22 assists.  Wooten played 22.4 minutes per game and shot 66% (178-270) from the field and 51% (100-197) at the free throw line, and was the team leader in field goals, field goal percentage, free throws, free throw attempts, rebounds (335), rebound average, blocks (96) and blocks average.  He posted season-highs of 42 points, 18 rebounds, six blocks four times, three steals two times, three assists and 32 minutes.  Wooten had 25 double-figure scoring games, including the one 40-point game among two 20-point games and 14 double-figure rebounding games with 12 double-doubles.

Wooten ranked third nationally in field goal percentage, seventh in blocks and 23rd in rebounding.  He helped Richard Bland to an overall record of 30-6, including the District 15, Region 10 Tournament Championship after completing the Region 10 regular season as runners-up with a record of 17-2.  The Statesmen concluded their second NJCAA DII National Tournament appearance in three years with a fourth-place finish among 123 NJCAA DII men's basketball programs.

Wooten has also been chosen to participate in the 2017 NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game to be played on Saturday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. ET at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The game is being played in conjunction with the Nike Basketball Coaches Clinic and will feature 12 NJCAA Division I sophomores and 12 NJCAA Division II/III sophomores.

Wooten becomes the second Statesmen honored as an All-American and picked to play in the All-Star Game, as Tavon Mealy '15 was a 2015 First Team All-American and All-Star Game participant, earning MVP honors at the game in Las Vegas.
