Richard Bland Participates in Junior League of Richmond Good Sports Program at Peter Paul Development Center

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- The Richard Bland College men's basketball team participated with the Junior League of Richmond in their Good Sports program on October 3 at the Peter Paul Development Center in Richmond.  Good Sports is a partnership program with the Junior League of Richmond and Peter Paul Development Center that works with third and fourth grade students, focusing on Character Counts traits, according to Ashley K. Allen, Good Sports Committee Chair for the Junior League of Richmond.  Local sports teams and athletes are brought in to expose kids to different sports and physical fitness, while providing healthy snacks and meals after school.  October's program focused on trustworthiness and basketball skills drills with the Statesmen.

"Our program with the Richard Bland men's basketball team is a highlight of the Good Sports year for the students at Peter Paul Development Center and our Junior League volunteers," explained Allen.  "The team engages with the kids to teach them about basketball, but most importantly, they tell these third and fourth graders their personal stories of how important it is to do well in school and make smart choices that will help them become successful in their education and maybe even in sports.  The team gives the kids their undivided attention as they help them develop strong character traits and learn basketball skills.  The students absolutely love the time they spend with these student-athletes, and we are excited to bring the kids of Peter Paul Development Center to an upcoming basketball game this season to cheer on the Statesmen."
