No. 17 Richard Bland Welcomes Wake Tech (N.C.) Saturday At 3 p.m.

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- No. 17 Richard Bland College will welcome Wake Technical (N.C.) Community College in a Region 10 men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon, January 20, at 3 p.m. in Statesman Hall.  The nationally-ranked Statesmen are 11-4 overall, including 5-2 in Region 10, while a perfect 5-0 at home this season.  The Eagles are 7-10 overall, including 5-4 in Region 10.  This is the first of five home games over the next eight days in Statesman Hall.

It's the annual Hall of Fame/Alumni Day contest, as well, as Brian Poarch '92 will be inducted into the College's Athletics Hall of Fame during a special pregame ceremony.  Admission is free to all Richard Bland home games, while the contest can be heard locally on WHAP Radio, Fox Sports 1340 AM.

Looking at the Statesmen
Richard Bland is 11-4 overall, 5-2 in Region 10, while ranked No. 17 in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll.  The Statesmen, playing their first home game since December 15, are an outstanding 115-35 (.767) over the past five seasons, including an even more impressive 56-8 (.875%) at home since 2013-14.  Richard Bland is coached by fifth-year head coach Chuck Moore (163-51 overall), and assisted by third-year assistant coach Preston Beverly and first-year assistant coach Anthony Sally.

Through 15 games, Richard Bland has been led in scoring by 6-4, 225-pound sophomore guard Robert Smith/Hampton, who is averaging 17.8 points and 5.7 rebounds.  He is followed by 6-2 sophomore guard Tim Bing Jr./Suitland, Maryland (12.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists), local 6-7 sophomore forward Stanley Taylor/Petersburg (9.3 points, 8.3 rebounds) and 6-3 sophomore guard Tre' Patterson/Richmond (9.1 points, 3.8 rebounds).

Looking at the Eagles
Wake Tech is 7-10 overall, 5-4 in Region 10, while coached by second-year head coach Adam Wainwright.  The Eagles are led in scoring by 6-4 freshman guard/forward Eddie Volkerts, who is averaging 20.8 points and 6.2 rebounds.  He is followed by 6-2 freshman guard Koraan Clemonts (19.4 points, 5.3 assists) and 6-8 sophomore forward Nick Johnson (14.5 points, 8.8 rebounds).

Series History
Richard Bland and Wake Tech are playing for the 10th time in the sport of men's basketball, and the Statesmen lead the series at 6-3.  The Statesmen won a pair of closely-played contests between the two schools a year ago, including 81-74 in the first meeting on November 22, 2016 in North Carolina and 94-86 in the second meeting on February 25, 2017 in Statesman Hall.
