SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College will welcome in-state Region 10 member Bryant & Stratton College to Statesman Hall for a men's basketball game on Wednesday night, February 21, at 7 p.m.  The Statesmen are 18-7 overall, including 12-5 in Region 10, while the Bobcats are 17-9 overall, including 13-5 in Region 10.  Richard Bland won the first meeting between the two schools this season by a score of 82-65 on January 31 in Norfolk.

The contest has been designated as the program's Faculty & Staff Appreciation Game, and can be heard locally on WHAP Radio, Fox Sports 1340 AM.

Looking at the Statesmen
Richard Bland currently stands fourth in the 11-team Region 10 standings, though only a game out of second.  The Statesmen program is 10-1 at home this season, while coached by fifth-year head coach Chuck Moore (122-38 at Richard Bland, 170-54 overall).  Moore is assisted by third-year assistant coach Preston Beverly.

Richard Bland is led by the sophomore trio of Robert Smith/Hampton (17.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists), Tim Bing Jr./Suitland, Maryland (11.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists) and Stanley Taylor/Petersburg (10.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 0.8 assists).  Taylor was recognized as the NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week for the period November 20-26.  The Statesmen are ranked 22nd nationally in scoring, averaging 87.7 points per game, while sophomore Ricky Hicks/Bronx, New York is ranked 37th nationally in assists (5.1).

Looking at the Bobcats
Bryant & Stratton currently stands third in the Region 10 standings and is coached by veteran head coach Cliff Coleman.  The Bobcats are led by sophomores Jordan Forbes (16.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 5.3 assists) and Gerrard Simpkins (14.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists).  Forbes, who ranks 10th nationally in rebounding (10.5) and 32nd in assists (5.3), has twice been recognized this season as the NJCAA DII National Player of the Week (Nov. 6-12, Jan. 22-28).  Bryant & Stratton is ranked 21st nationally in scoring, averaging 88.0 points.

First Meeting This Season
Richard Bland trailed 35-34 at halftime before outscoring Bryant & Stratton 48-30 in the second half of the NJCAA Division II Top 20 contest (Statesmen were ranked No. 18, Bobcats were No. 20).  Robert Smith and freshman Ryan Jones/Smithfield each scored 16 points for the visitors, while Gerrard Simpkins scored a game-high 19 points for the hosts.

Richard Bland remains at home for its final two regular season games in Statesman Hall this weekend, hosting Fayetteville Tech (N.C.) on Friday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. and Vance-Granville (N.C.) on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 3 p.m.  Friday night is Wounded Warrior Project Appreciation, while Sunday afternoon is Sophomore Day.
