Men's Basketball Fall to Hagerstown

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA -- The Richard Bland College of William & Mary men's basketball team fell to Hagerstown Community College Saturday evening 87-73 at Statesman Hall.

The Statesmen start the season 0-1, and will next travel to Harford Community College on Wednesday, November 7 for a 7 pm tipoff. The Hagerstown Hawks improve to 1-0.

The entire first half was a back and forth battle. Sophomore Wayne Clevert started off hot from behind the arc hitting two quick three-pointers in the first two minutes of the game. These points gave the Statesman an early 6-2 lead. The Hawks then went on a brief scoring streak to go up by nine points. The Statesmen fought back to decrease the deficit to five at the end of the first half, trailing 46-41.

At the start of the second half, the Statesmen found their hands full with a very active and energetic Hawks team. With a short bench, Richard Bland found themselves deep in foul trouble early in the second half which helped the Hawks lead by as many as 20 points. Both teams continued to fight hard, but the Statesmen were unable to recover from the Hawk's impressive offense.

The Statesmen will return home in Statesmen Hall on November 14, hosting Clinton College.
