Statesmen's First Season Victory Won In Final Seconds, 78-76

BRYN MAWR, PA – The Statesmen picked up their first official NJCAA Division I win this season against the Harford Hawks Friday night at the Harcum Invitational in Southeast Pennsylvania.

Richard Bland improved to 1-5 on the season and will next play nationally ranked Eastern Florida State Titans on Saturday 17 for a 1 pm tipoff. Harford fell to 3-4 on the year.

A combination of a great defense and strong offensive scoring efforts from the Statesmen's starting five led to a quick 10-0 lead within the first four minutes of the game against Harford. With almost every member of the Statesmen's active roster scoring in the first half, Richard Bland held a strong lead going into the half. Harford came out strong in the second half making seven three-pointer shots. The Hawks went 12 for 14 from the three-point line and found themselves with a two-point lead with under two minutes to go. The Statesmen, determined to get a win, forced a late turnover under a minute which led to a tough layup by freshman guard Jalen Spicer to put Richard Bland up by two with three seconds remaining in the competition. The Hawks failed to complete a three-point attempt on the other end giving the Statesmen their first win of the season by a score of 78-76. Sophomore Marvin Trotman led the Statesmen in scoring with 20 points.
