Statesmen Downed By Allegany, 95-91

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA -- The Richard Bland College of William men's basketball team fell to Allegany College of Maryland Trojans 95-91 on Wednesday night in Statesmen Hall.

The Statesmen are now 5-11 on the season while Allegany College of Maryland improves to 10-7. Richard Bland is back on the road this Saturday, January 26 as they face Brunswick Community College for a 2 pm tipoff at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness and Aquatics Center.

The Statesmen held a 14-4 lead with fourteen minutes remaining in the first half. The Trojans began to heat up from behind the three-point line shooting 50 percent on 12 shots in the first half. After the Trojans recovered from the deficit the two teams battled back and forth for the lead. The Statesmen managed to capitalize off two late steals to give them the lead at halftime with a score of 51-45.

As the second half opened up the Trojans made a strong push to try and regain the lead. Richard Bland continued to fight and led by as much as ten points with twelve minutes remaining in the half. The Trojans, however, continued their hot shooting from behind the arc. In the second half Allegany College managed to shoot an astounding 66 percent from three. With 3:40 remaining in the second half the Trojans would take the lead and not look back. Allegany's Davon Floyd led all scorers with 27 points. Sophomore Sterling Carrington led the Statesmen with 23 followed closely by freshman Jordan Cross with 22.

The Statesmen are back home Wednesday, January 30th when they host Cape Fear Community College.
