Men's Basketball Downed By USC Salkehatchie, 97-73

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA -- The Richard Bland College of William College of William & Mary men's basketball team fell to the USC Salkehatchie Indians 97-73 on Saturday evening.

Richard Bland falls to 6-17 on the season while USC Salkehatchie improves to 16-10. The Statesmen next travel to Cumberland, Maryland on Wednesday 20 for a 7 pm tipoff to face Allegany College of Maryland.

The Statesmen had a slow start Saturday when they didn't score until the 17-minute mark of the first half when they trailed 8-2. Salkehatchie moved the ball well on the perimeter hitting seven, three-point shots in the first half. Richard Bland continued to fight and found themselves down ten points with a halftime score of 38-28.

Salkehatchie came out strong once again in the second half, scoring on seven of their first nine possessions of the half. With 12 minutes remaining on the game clock, the Indians led 58-44. The Statesmen found some rhythm in their ball screen offense scoring on multiple half-court possessions. In the end, it was not enough to keep the confident Indians from stretching their lead.

Sophomore Sterling Carrington led all scorers with 22 points. Sophomore Marvin Trotman contributed an additional 17 points while freshman Jalen Spicer added another 12. The Statesmen will host their last home game and Sophomore Night on Saturday, February 23 for a 2 pm tipoff when Denmark Technical College comes to town.
