Five Statesmen Score Double Figures, Smith Records Second Triple-Double of Season in Men’s Basketball Loss

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team hosted Gaston College Saturday afternoon for a conference contest with the Rhinos. After the contest, the Statesmen moved to 4-10 overall, 2-2 in conference play after dropping the narrow contest, 84-85.

 

Saturday afternoon, Richard Bland opened with their highest scoring first half this season. The Statesmen and Rhinos were deadlocked at 47 after 20 minutes of play. Battling back and forth, with a large home crowd behind them, Richard Bland fell just short in the second half, being outscored by one, allowing the Rhinos to take home the win.

 

Andy Ramirez led the way for Richard Bland with 23 points, followed by Jalen Smith scoring his second triple-double of the season with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Doyle Brown added 12 points, Emmanuel Vonhm 12 points and six rebounds, and Christian Chambers 10 points and three rebounds in the loss. Jermaine Coston Jr. chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds, and Dove Fishburne four rebounds and two points for Richard Bland.

 

Richard Bland shot 53.7% from the field, 43.8% from the perimeter, and 75.0% from the charity stripe.

 

The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team next travels to Cape Fear Community College on Saturday, February 1st in a 3pm contest. The Statesmen will then travel to Brunswick Community College on Sunday, February 2nd to close out the weekend trip.
